Saatserinna

The Saatserinna suite is located on the third floor, a new add-on to the original building. Compared to the bold colors and wooden details of the old part, the palette of the room is Scandinavian, light, and calm. A more modern approach is used here with gray concrete and clay-colored walls and ceilings. There’s marmorino and glass separators in the bathrooms. The suite has a bath in the bedroom with an exceptional view and a spacious balcony opening in two directions. And if you prefer privacy and a longer snooze, you can cover the big windows with floor-to-ceiling curtains.

A bit of history behind the name of the room:

The name of Saatserinna (also called Satserinna) comes from the Russian word “zatšerenje,” which means “behind the oak.” That is derived from the word “tšeren” – oak. The center of this area is Saatse church village and its stone church built in 1802. The main holiday in the region is “päätnitsapäev” (the last Friday in July). Saatserinna is also called “curd county,” since this specific dairy product was of significant importance here. During the busy period in July, people would still find time from work to bless the dairy in the church, the act being called “kohopiimä sarda panõma.” “Sard” is a tool for drying hay, and in Saatse and Setomaa more generally, dairy products (cheese, curd, etc.) have always been part of special meals. Not less interesting is the fact that the signature food of Setomaa, “siir,” or cheese made from curd, was the second food item in Estonia to receive a protected geographical label.
