A bit of history behind the name of the room:

Mokornulga got its name from the Russian language – “mokrõi lug” means a wet meadow. Historically, it used to be a wetland, but the drainage during the Soviet times turned it into one of the best farmlands in Setomaa. Mokornulga is bordered by the river Piusa on one side and the Tuhkvitsa stream on the other. The central village is Obinitsa, which was first mentioned in 1652. The archaeological finds put the settlement much earlier, with some of them being 1000-1300 years old. The house that is now Ilmaveere was built in 1904. It was a unique building in the Baltic area, with the first floor being a school and the second a church. On the shores of the man-made Obinitsa lake (completed in 1995), there is a statue of the Singing Mother to honor the legacy of famous female singers from this area. The view from here is definitely one of the most beautiful in Setomaa, and the statue is an important symbol for the entire Setomaa.
